Ingredients of Butter Naan Recipe:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour (maida)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 tablespoons plain yogurt
- 2 tablespoons melted ghee or oil
- 1/2 cup warm milk (approximately)
- Butter, for brushing
- Chopped fresh coriander leaves (optional), for garnishing
Instructions of making Batter Naan:
1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, salt, sugar, baking powder, and baking soda. Mix well.
2. Add the plain yogurt and melted ghee (or oil) to the dry ingredients. Now mix well all these with your fingers until the mixture becomes crumbly.
3. Slowly add warm milk, a little at a time, and knead the mixture to form a soft and smooth dough. The amount of milk needed can vary, so add it gradually until the dough comes together. Knead for about 5-7 minutes until the dough is soft and pliable.
4. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for about 2 hours at room temperature. This resting time helps in making the naans soft.
5. After the resting period, preheat a tawa (griddle) or a non-stick pan over medium-high heat.
6. Divide the dough into small balls. Take care to male balls not too small, not too large. About the size of a golf ball is good enough for naan. Roll each ball between your palms to make them smooth.
7. Roll out each ball into a round naan using a rolling pin on a lightly floured surface. The naan should be about 1/4 inch thick and oval or circular in shape.
8. Lightly wet one side of the naan with water. Place the wet side down on the preheated tawa.
9. Cook the naan for about 1-2 minutes until the bubbles form on the surface.
10. Flip the naan using tongs or a spatula and cook the other side for an additional 1-2 minutes, or until it puffs up and gets golden brown spots.
11. Remove the naan from the tawa and immediately brush it with melted butter. You can also sprinkle chopped fresh coriander leaves on top for added flavor.
12. Repeat the process with the remaining dough balls.
13. Serve the Butter Naan warm with your favorite curries, dal, or any Indian dish of your choice.
