Ingredients of Mangalore Style Crab Curry
Coconut masala Ingredients:
- 1 tbsp Coconut oil
- 1 tsp Coriander seeds
- 6 Dry red chilies (You may use more or less as per your taste)
- 1 cup fresh shredded coconut (You may use frozen also)
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1/2 inch Tamarind (adjust as per taste)
- Water as required
Crab curry ingredients:
- 4 Crabs (cleaned)
- 3 tbsp Coconut oil
- 2 Onion (roughly chopped)
- 1 tsp Salt (adjust as per taste)
Instructions of Making Mangalorean Crab Curry
1. Prepare coconut masala:
- Heat a small pan on oven and add 1 tbsp of coconut oil. When oil turns hot add 1 tsp coriander seeds and fry on low heat until it becomes golden in color.
- Now, to the same pan, add 6 red chilies and fry 2 minutes or until chilies turn crispy.
- Transfer the fried coriander seeds and red chilies into a mixer jar and let it cool.
- To the mixer jar, add 1 cup shredded coconut, 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, 1/2 inch tamarind, required quantity of water and grind all these to a smooth paste.
2. Preparation of the crab curry:
- Heat a pan over medium heat, add 3 tbsp of coconut oil.
- When oil is hot, add roughly chopped 2 onions and fry until the color become golden brown.
- Now, add cleaned crab pieces and 1/2 cup water and mix everything well. Now close the pan with a lid and cook for 5 minutes.
- After cooking for 5 minutes, add the coconut masala and 1 tsp salt. You can add water if required and mix well.
- Close the pan with a lid and cook over low to medium-low heat for another 15 minutes or until the raw smell dissipates. Keep stirring in between.
- Turn off the flame once the crab is cooked. Leave everything untouched for some time, so that the crab can soaks up the gravy and becomes juicy.
- Add some onion rings and sprinkle some coriander leaves for added flavors.
Your Mangalorean Crab Curry is now ready to serve.
