Ingredients of Misa Mach Poora:

  • 500 grams Shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • Banana leaves (enough to wrap the shrimp)
  • 2 tablespoons mustard oil
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder (use more or less as per your spice preference)
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 lemon, juice extracted
  • 2-3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch piece of ginger, grated
  • Fresh coriander leaves, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions of Making Misa Mach Poora:

1. Clean the banana leaves and cut them into squares large enough to wrap portions of shrimp.

2. In a mixing bowl, combine mustard oil, turmeric powder, red chili powder, salt, minced garlic, grated ginger, and the juice of one lemon. Mix well to create a marinade.

3. Add the shrimp which you have peeled and deveined before to the marinade. Make sure each shrimp is well coated. Allow them to marinate for at least 15-30 minutes, or longer for more intense flavors.

4. Place the banana leaf over a slow fire to make it soft. Place a few marinated shrimp in the center of each banana leaf square.

5. Wrap the banana leaf and tie it tightly with  banana stem thread or with a toothpick. Repeat this process for all the shrimp portions.

6. Preheat your grill or oven which ever you want to use to medium-high heat.

7. If using a grill: Place the banana leaf-wrapped shrimp packets on the grill. Grill for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until the shrimp are pink and cooked through.

8. If using an oven: Preheat your oven to the highest broil setting. Place the banana leaf-wrapped shrimp packets on a baking sheet. Broil for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until the shrimp are pink and cooked through.

9. Once the shrimp are cooked and the banana leaves have imparted their flavor, remove the packets from the grill or oven.
